RESUMO

The COVID-19 pandemic made it difficult for Native American populations to access health information. Through funding from the Network of The National Library of Medicine Region 4, a community library was able to enhance their native and nonnative health collections for distribution on the Wind River Reservation in Central Wyoming. The book mobile was originally funded by the Wyoming State Library through American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 funding to increase literacy efforts during the pandemic. Materials were distributed at multiple locations throughout the reservation and individuals indicated they appreciated the materials being provided. This program was successful in distributing health information to an underserved priority population within the United States. Hopefully, similar programs would be successful in enhancing health education programs with other priority populations in both the United States and the world.

RESUMO

In hospitals and clinics, anyone who "touches" a patient has a license authorizing them to do so-from the phlebotomist to the cardiologist, from the genetic counselor to the social worker, and so on, except for the clinical medical librarian. This column discusses the intent versus the realities of occupational licensure for clinical medical librarians and provides recommendations for next steps.

RESUMO

A 2012 project provided forty-eight health sciences librarians from primarily hospital and academic health sciences libraries with an Apple iPad2 along with training and support on its use. Project objectives were to determine how participants would adopt the iPad into their daily operations and what form of leadership role they would play while participating in the project. By project's end eighty-nine percent indicated they would continue using the iPad primarily as a productivity tool and to provide point of need services. Project data indicated that librarians assumed a leadership role promoting the use of mobile technology and the applications available.

RESUMO

Library faculty participation on the School of Medicine Curriculum Steering Committee led to a unique opportunity to partner technology and teaching utilizing the library's portable wireless classroom. The pathology lab course master expressed a desire to revise the curriculum using patient cases and direct access to the Web and library resources. Since the pathology lab lacked computers, the library's portable wireless classroom provided a solution. Originally developed to provide maximum portability and flexibility, the wireless classroom consists of ten laptop computers configured with wireless cards and an access point. While the portable wireless classroom led to a partnership with the School of Medicine, there were additional benefits and positive consequences for the library.
